Mid-Atlantic Wine and Food Festival: 6 - 10 March 2013, Wilmington DE, USA
11 March 2013
WOSA participated in the Mid-Atlantic Wine and Food festival from 6 – 10 March in Wilmington Delaware. The Mid-Atlantic Food and Wine Festival is the Delaware region`s premier food and wine event, the Festival attracted hundreds of visitors from New York to Washington D.C. and beyond.
Now in its second year, the Festival boasted 44 unique culinary and wine events that occurred over four days in formats that ranged from small, intimate dinners to highly attended events that hosted hundreds of people. International chefs and winemakers from across the world demonstrated their talents to the delight of Festival patrons. WOSA participated in the Festival Village (a tent in Rodney square in downtown Wilmington) with a presence of a number of South African wine importers’ wines. The Festival Village was open during the daytime and was visited by 600 people per day – mostly consumers. They were very interested in learning more about South African wines, and the feedback on the wines was impressive.
WOSA also participated in 9 of the other events, and hosted a big braai with live music on the 9th of March, for 300 people in the Festival Village. SA Ambassador to the USA, Ebrahim Rasool, and the NY Consul General, Mr. George Monyemangene, attended the braai and WOSA was supported at the Festival by SA Consulate staff, Simon Barber from Brand SA, Peppadew SA, South African Citrus and the Chamber of Commerce from Atlanta, Georgia – without them we would not have been able to have such a great SA atmosphere at the festival. Top South African chefs Hugo Uys and Pierre van Zyl and Quoin Rock General Manager, Thys Lombard, also participated in smaller events and dinners – adding some more authentic South African flair to the festival.
The Mid Atlantic Food and Wine festival is growing and becoming a feature on the calendar of top wine and food events on the East Coast. WOSA would like to thank the importers and producers who took the time to work at the Festival Village and for donating a selection of amazing South African wines.
