Mitt Kok 2014
24 November 2014
A couple of weeks ago, Wines of south Africa attended the biggest food and wine show in Sweden called Mitt Kök. This is a consumer based show in Stockholm that attracts just over 37 000 visitors every year.
This time we had a slightly different set up at the show. Instead of having a conventional stand with wines for the visitors to taste we used a “passport system”. The WOSA stand was located just at the entrance of the show and had the look and feel of a check in counter at an airport. The visitors came to the stand and were given a small passport that guided them around the hall to the different exhibitors. We had ten importers participating with everything between three and ten wines each. The idea was to guide the passport holder around the show through to the different stands containing South African wines. If the passport holder managed to visit at least five different stands, tasting at least one wine at the different places they could enter our Cape Wine competition. The passport holder got a small (individual) stamp at every exhibitor, so we could easily check whether they managed to do this or not.
After the show we did some calculation, and the result was that over 4500 wines were tasted through our passport idea, not counting all of the passports that came back with less than five stamps.
After the show, we did a lucky draw. The winner of a trip to Cape Wine is Malin Holmberg from Uppsala, Sweden. She was almost in tears when we gave her the good news, and is now planning for the trip of her life - her first trip to South Africa!
