WOSA WORLD
Feedback on New Orleans BBQ
4 March 2014
On the 22nd of February WOSA USA hosted a BBQ in New Orleans as part of the BBQ to Braai series.
It was a tremendous success supported by numerous press publications, building wonderful awareness for South African wines. 305 people bought tickets but it was estimated that 320 people attended the BBQ that was hosted in the CBD of New Orleans at the Falstaff Beer Garden. WOSA selected an African American chef, Syrena Johnson to work with on the event and most of the USA based importers supported the event with wines. Our own South African born and selected chef for the Braai series, Hugo Uys, collaborated with Syrena to create a South African based menu, inspired by local fare with a Louisiana twist.
At the event South African musician, Xander Ferreira performed, creating an energetic vibe with African music. WOSA also teamed up with Habitat for Humanity as the chosen charity to support with ticket saels. WOSA generated $5 000 for them, and through the charity we received even more press. The event was covered and documented by PBS food channel and will be aired in the coming weeks, creating vital consumer awareness. WOSA also collaborated with Pearl Wines in New Orleans as the chosen retail partner and sold wines at the event. Pearl Wines has subsequently also broadened their portfolio of SA wines.
The owner will be part of the upcoming retail trip to South Africa. Next stop for the BBQ to Braai series is Scottsdale Arizona, on April the 12th.
