Platter 5-star tasting, the Netherlands

On Monday the 2nd of December WOSA hosted a tasting event showcasing a selection of Platter's 2014 5-star wines in the Netherlands. The tasting was attended by press and trade (sommeliers, buyers and wine independents). The guided tasting of the wines were commented on by  Frank Jacobs, well-known Dutch journalist, lecturer and wine consultant in the Netherlands with an in-depth knowledge of South Africa.

In total 15 wines were presented, all of which were very well-received. In terms of white wines, the focus was on Chenin Blanc and the overall feeling was that this is really a  showcase grape variety for South Africa. Comments from the tasters were that the wines showed elegance and that SA winemakers are becoming very adept at applying a restrained oak regime. The red wine category focused mainly on Bordeaux style blends. After the tutored tasting we had an informal tasting  with a special focus for Mullineux Family Wines as the "Winery of the Year", with a wine-food pairing by the Hilton Royal Park Hotel Chef Joey Schaap.

By continuing to showcase top quality wines from South Africa, we aim to persuade media and trade in the Netherlands that not only can we produce very good value wines, but South Africa is also a serious quality  contestant on the world wine stage.
