PROWEIN BRINGS THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH TO GLOBAL WINE TRADE

Afrikaans volg onder.

Argentina, Chile and South Africa are uniting again at ProWein 2014 under the banner of Wines of the Beautiful South. The three southern hemisphere countries plan to bring an impressive line-up of wines and wine experts to the Düsseldorf trade exhibition in March.

The renamed collaboration, previously Flavours of the South, follows the success of last year's inaugural The Beautiful South event, held in London, that collectively branded the three in a combined exhibition to the international wine trade fraternity.

The three countries have assembled some of their most awarded attention-grabbing wines and will be exploring a range of intriguing wine and food pairing concepts through educational seminars presented by a number of key speakers. Each country will also present two seminars showcasing their national offerings.

Argentina, Chile and South Africa have been working together very effectively at ProWein since 2010, both to highlight what they hold in common and also to demonstrate how they each express these features in unique and distinctive ways. Their combined show-within-a-show format at ProWein has annually proved to be amongst the biggest drawcards for delegates, with seminars on wines and wine and food pairing regularly over-subscribed.

ProWein, considered one of the most significant annual events on the international wine trade calendar, attracts many of the world's top decision makers from not only Europe but the Americas and the Asia.

Wines of the Beautiful South presenters, all well-respected authorities, include:

Ronan Sayburn MS, former winner of the UK Sommelier of the Year title, who is currently the head of wines for the prestigious Dorchester Collection UK; Tim Atkin MW, widely published UK-based wine critic; Caro Maurer MW, German wine journalist, educator and judge andMadeleine Stenwreth MW, a former sommelier and today international wine judge, who is based in Sweden and consults globally to high-profile wine producers as well as leading importing companies across the Nordic market.

Siobhan Thompson, newly appointed CEO of Wines of South Africa (WOSA), said South African producers would be focusing on top-performing wines across a range of price points, underscoring the impressive advances made by the industry over the past two decades.

She said common to all three members of Wines of The Beautiful South was a focus on eco-sensitive and creative solutions to climate change, the pioneering of new wine-growing areas and new approaches to winemaking.

This multi-national collaboration makes it easier for delegates to appreciate the national distinctions between producers, as visitors to ProWein could view them alongside each other and within the same context. Exhibiting in this way is also made more interesting when wines are presented under specific themes to feature trends and different national expressions, she added.

ProWein starts on Sunday, March 23, and runs until Tuesday, March 25.
